Mera School Digital School

Mera School Digital School programme, unique initiative by Union Minister for Rural Development, Mining and Panchayati Raj Narendra Singh Tomar, aimed at turning 100 Government Schools ‘Smart’ in the first phase in Gwalior District of Madhya Pradesh, was launched with 100 Digital Classrooms in 75 Rural Government Schools by Vice President of India, M. Venkaiah Naidu on 29 September 2018. “Technology brings transparency, prosperity and opportunities for rural youth”, Vice President said, while addressing the gathering on the occasion and added that, “India’s future is bright because it rests on the innovative abilities of our younger generation”. “That connecting rural students with digital technology will change their lives as technology gives them access to information, opportunities at par with those living in urban areas and helps them become part in the process of Nation Building.”

The project under which computers and projectors are being installed in schools is being implemented in collaboration with NGO Muskan Dream Foundation and Hindustan Zinc Limited. Lauding the efforts of Government and the NGOs, the Vice President stressed on the need to provide education to all the girls, especially in rural areas and said that:

• Education is essential for enhancement of knowledge, economic progress and empowerment.
• These digital classrooms will help students understand the complexities if Science and Mathematics better.
• Audio-visual content and the support of internet will help them immensely.
• If knowledge is power and education a deliverance from ignorance and poverty, then teachers are the agents of social change and schools are social assets and education a community resource.
• These digital interventions have made schools truly social assets.
• Corporate houses should feel social responsibility and contribute towards rural education.

Union Minister for Rural Development, Mining and Panchayati Tomar has adopted Chinaur village in the district under the MP’s Ideal Village Scheme. With the help of Muskan Dream Foundation and district Panchayat, he converted the Government Girls School of the village into a digital school. This brought about excellent results. Tomar then decided to convert all government schools in his Lok Sabha constituency Gwalior into digital ones, saying, “Children are the future of our country. Through digital education, we can give a new shape to the career of the children of the rural areas.”
