In an age where the water scarcity is becoming cause of concern, Telangana Government with the support of Union Government, has come out with a new innovative idea by launching Mission Bhagiratha to provide safe drinking water to everyone in the State through dedicated water pipeline channels. The regions in the state of Telangana are thirsty and supply of water to people in the large parts is very scarce that does not meet needs of the drinking water. The Mission Bhagiratha is an example of exploiting technology and science to the best possible extent to bring relief to the aggrieved humanity suffering from deficiency of water supply, without which the existence of life cannot be imagined.
To confederate the mission, the Telangana government envisages a credible broad plan of establishing water grid project to provide a sustainable and durable solution to the problem of safe drinking water.
The Main objective of this Mission “Bhagiratha” is to provide 100 litres & 150 litres of clean drinking water per person in rural households and in urban households respectively. The final deadline for completion of water grid project is March 2018. The cost likely to be incurred to revive and rejuvenate 45,000 water tanks with dedicated pipelines is estimated to be around Rs. 42,000 crore. The project will cover 67 urban and 25000 rural inhabitants and a total of 34 thousand million cubic of water from River Godavari and 21.5 thousand million cubic of water River Krishna are estimated to be utilized to quench the thirst of the people.
It is noteworthy that the project will be scientifically designed with application of natural gradient at possible locations and pump water wherever required through pipelines channels. There is plan to construct a big state-level grid having a total of 26 internal grids. Water from Komuram Bheem Project, Jurala Dam, Paleru Reservoir, Sriram Sagar Project, Srisailam, Nizam Sagar Project will also be utilized to realize the ambitious goal.
The government will be using latest and upgraded technology for the proposed Water Grid project and “Advanced Light Detection and Ranging” (LIDAR) technology will be utilized for survey of Water Grid and the “Lightweight aircrafts” will be engaged for aerial survey.
The use of Hydraulic based modeling software for determining shape and size of water pipelines, pumping capacity and height from which water would be pumped is another technological application that would aid the project. In order to resolve any problem in distribution of water, the software tools like smart flow and surge analysis will be used.
